This study, commissioned by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the Platform on Disaster Displacement (PDD), responds to a call by governments in Latin America and the Caribbean in the 2014 Brazil Declaration and Plan of Action to assess and provide guidance on the response in those regions to cross-border
displacement in the context of disasters linked to natural hazards and climate change.

Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago – The growing frequency and intensity of tropical storms and other natural disasters have pushed Caribbean countries to prioritize their response planning. Tackling the challenges of human mobility in the context of disasters and climate change in the region has become a top concern.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM), in support of the National Disaster Management Agency of Grenada (NadMA), conducted two workshops on Shelter Management, in the cities St. George and St. Patrick, in Grenada.

Under the framework of the Caribbean Migration Consultations (CMC), the Government of the Dominican Republic, with the support of IOM, hosted a workshop with the participation of officials and decision makers of the Caribbean, to raise awareness and strengthen the regional capacities on humanitarian assistance and protection of the displaced people and migrants affected by natural disasters.
